STEM Education Resources

As a long time science educator with more than 15 years of experience as a classroom teacher, STEM education consultant, and volunteer for museums and other nonprofit organizations, I have invested a lot of time and effort in learning science content and designing lesson plans and strategies for engaging kids in science. I truly believe that the future of our economy depends on our ability to prepare students for careers in science and technology, and to ignite a passion in kids to pursue these careers. I also believe that in order to achieve true equity for students, we as a society need to work to proactively develop a more technologically advanced system of education that provides differentiated learning opportunities to meet the individual needs of every student.

This part of my site includes science content, links to STEM resources, and ideas for STEM enrichment activities for kids. Since my background is concentrated in biology, much of the content is relevant to life science. However, as time progresses, I continually add more content for K-12 science and math, and will also be developing a technology section with computer programming, technical communications, and other relevant topics. There is also a good resource page for parents in this section and I'm going to start working on a STEM careers page as well.

I also post a lot of upcoming opportunities for teachers and students to get involved with science "in the real world" on the Gold Coast Science Network Facebook page.
