Professional Experience

Education & Outreach Consultant - Ventura County, CA
Gold Coast Science Network (GCSN) 
(2008-present)
  • Act in an executive director capacity as president of Gold Coast Science Network overseeing marketing, finance, and program administration.
  • Manage a team of volunteers to develop, market, and deliver quality events that provide training and support for science and math teachers in Ventura and surrounding counties, including the annual Gold Coast Science Network conferences (GCSN) for STEM education.
  • Create engaging marketing materials like flyers, brochures, and event programs utilizing graphic design and publishing skills; manage social media campaigns using platforms like Facebook and Twitter; and serve as webmaster for the organization's website at www.goldcoastscience.net.
  • Advocate for STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education throughout Ventura County and the state, to include service on the School Site Councils of at least eight different elementary with a focus on advocating for increased parent outreach and involvement, and more comprehensive science and technology education.
  • Develop and coordinate science activities and lessons for grades K-12 and provide comprehensive training and ongoing coaching to Ventura County K-12 educators.
  • Present workshops at various venues, including California Science Teachers Association (CSTA), National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), Gold Coast Science Network (GCSN), AAUW Brighter Horizons, and Cal State University (CSU) conferences and colloquia.
  • Serve on VC STEM Network Professional Learning and Informal Education action groups dedicated to developing strategic relationships between academia and industry, and developing resources for Ventura County educators.
  • Serve as a judge annually at the Ventura County Science Fair.
Discovery Center for Science and Technology

  • Coordinate Santa Paula Family Science Nights managing a team of volunteers to develop, market, and deliver quality events.
  • Coordinated Career Day for the Math Midway exhibit.
Santa Paula Latino Town Hall (SPLTH)
(2012-present)
  • Provide marketing and outreach support support for the organization's Youth Engagement and Empowerment Initiative as well as other social justice initiatives of the organization.
  • Manage marketing and assist with coordination of the Annual Awards Dinner which raises revenue of more than $20,000 each year.
  • Webmaster for www.sp-lth.org.
Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture (SEEAG)

  • Conducted a comprehensive program review and generated a report with recommendations for aligning the program to the new state standards.
  • Provided professional development to program leadership on the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
Bioscience Alliance 
(2010-2013)
  • Worked with members of the Workforce Investment Board of Ventura County​, industry leaders, and local leaders in education to develop programs, resources and collaborations that help strengthen STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education in Ventura County, to include providing support for the newly emerging VC STEM Network.

  • ​Coordinated a science carnival fundraiser, to include planning all of the science activity booths, promoting the event, and recruiting event sponsors. Created marketing materials utilizing graphic design and publishing skills.

  • Worked as a marketing consultant and recruiter for the Johns Hopkins University Engineering Innovations program.​ Increased program reach ten fold and applications to the program by 50% over the course of a year.

  • Developed and delivered professional development seminars to California educators teaching them about cancer and genetics, and how to use the resources available from Cold Springs Harbor Laboratory.
Grant Analyst, California State University Channel Islands

  • Supported a $3.7 million grant from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM). ​Ensured compliance with all budgetary and documentation requirements of the grant while adhering to university policies and procedures, drafting annual grant reports, developing relationships with partnering institutions, and coordinating all aspects of the Stem Cell Internship program, to include coordinating internships for up to 15 students per year at prestigious stem cell research laboratories throughout California.​

Science Educator - Ventura County, CA
(2001-2015)
  • Taught life and physical science lab courses, including Amgen Biotechnology Experience labs, and served as yearbook coordinator at various high schools in Ventura County (Channel Islands High School in Oxnard, Renaissance High School in Santa Paula, Villanova Preparatory High School in Ojai, and Thousand Oaks High School in Thousand Oaks).
  • Taught biology and microbiology at Oxnard College.

As a result, the district received accolades from the auditors. 
  • Led Renaissance High School's WASC preparations and served as lead author on the WASC report, resulting in a six year accreditation, the highest awarded by WASC visiting committees.
  • Coordinated Clare Booth Luce program to promote women in math, science, and engineering.
  • Advised students in multiple competitions, including science fairs and Odyssey of the Mind. Students advanced to state competitions on multiple occasions.
  • Served on multiple school site councils and parent/teacher advisory groups, including as secretary of the Santa Paula High School PTA. Developed an electronic records system and coordinated multiple fundraising and parent education events.

  • Developed and managed a database for work processes and procedures for an Information Technology (IT) division of the Naval Surface Warfare Center on Port Hueneme Naval Base.
