Langage ArtsLanguage Arts encompasses reading and writing in multiple genres, and speaking and listening skills. These major sub disciplines are outlined in the common core state standards for ELA (English Language Arts), which were adopted by the California Department of Education in 2010 and have also been adopted by various other states throughout the nation. The standards specify what students should know and be able to do at each grade level and are based on research about child development. It is up to parents and teachers to employ strategies to help their children and students learn the necessary skills for each grade level.
