BIOLOGY RESOURCES
I have retained this page from when I was teaching high school biology and am making it available on my website since several teachers have asked me to provide access to my old lecture slides and course documents. I hope you find it useful...
Course Documents
- College Prep Biology Course Syllabus
- Letter Home to Parents
- Donation Letter for Parents
- A Parent's Guide to Preparing Your Student for College - this was made for Minnesota schools but most of the information is accurate for students in California as well. Our standards are a little different, but the main ideas are the same.
- Enrichment Activities
- Steps for Technical Reading - this document provides instructions to help students develop study skills associated with reading technical documentation
Lecture Presentations
Most college courses today are taught using PowerPoint presentations or another similar presentation method. Often students are provided with these files in advance and expected to print them out and bring them to class. As Biology CP is a college preparatory class, PowerPoint will be used to aid lectures throughout the semester and students will be taught how to use and interact with their notes. I will provide students with a copy of the slides to take notes on and use for study. Students who lose the copies I provide will need to visit this page to download the missing pages and print out a new copy. Computers and printers are available in the library. Students will receive a grade at the end of the semester for having all of their notes organized in their binder. Students are expected to add notes to their print out of the lecture slides during the lecture and while reading assigned sections from the textbook. They are also expected to highlight important information and review them on a regular basis and before exams. Exam questions will come primarily from the lecture notes, and so this should guide students in what to focus on when reading their textbooks. The goal is for each student to be able to use these notes as a basis for designing a study guide prior to each test.
